What happens if the wrong information is discovered on any TransUnion® reports?

Unfortunately, this can happen. While rare, you may be one of many John Smiths or Mary Jones born on the same day as another. Similarities in name and date of birth might cause an error on one of your reports. Don’t panic! It can be easily corrected.

What to do

Contact TransUnion® immediately! The FCRA - Fair Credit Reporting Act obligates TransUnion® to correct any inaccuracies on anyone’s consumer reports.

What not to do

Please do NOT contact us! It isn’t that we don’t want to help. We do! Unfortunately, SoftScreen® cannot make any changes or corrections to TransUnion® reports. Only TransUnion® can. This is because SoftScreen® does not provide reports. TransUnion® does. SoftScreen® is a service letting you get and share your TransUnion® data safely, securely, and privately. We are prohibited from and cannot touch any data in the TransUnion® system. That’s why it is essential to contact TransUnion® directly and immediately.

What to expect

The FCRA allows up to 30 days for errors to be corrected. Fortunately, corrections typically happen much faster than the allowable 30-day time frame. Once you call TransUnion®, they will document your query, provide written confirmation, and follow up with you as soon as corrections are made.

Once corrections are made and the inaccurate information is removed, TransUnion® will notify you. At that time, you should call TransUnion® and request “report regeneration” to refresh the information displayed on reports already in your SoftScreen® account. In the future, any new reports that you generate will no longer show inaccurate data.
