What to expect. The renter’s experience

With any new experience, knowing what to expect ahead of time can be helpful.

You’ll start by registering your secure account. You’ll need your cell phone and access to your email.

  • When setting up your account, we will help you verify your email address and add your mobile phone to enable a secure sign-in. We’ll send a code to each, verifying they were entered correctly.

  • You’ll provide your basic info: name, address, and date of birth.

  • This needs to be accurate; it will be provided to TransUnion® to generate your reports.

  • Once you’ve registered, you're signed in to your SoftScreen® account.

Welcome to your dashboard! You have options…

  • If you arrive via an invitation link, your invitation will automatically appear on your screen. Please accept!

  • If you have an invitation but did not receive the link, no worries! SoftScreen® will recognize your email address when you log in. Your invitation will be in your account, waiting for you! Just click “My Invitations” to accept.

  • If you do not have an invitation, you can choose one of two options…

  • Option 1 - You can generate and receive your soft pull, TransUnion® reports, and rental application.
    If desired, you can also choose to share these with your agent of choice. It’s up to you. You always control the distribution of your own information!

  • Option 2 - Go ahead and apply for rent. You will generate and receive your soft pull, TransUnion® reports, and rental application.
    These are shared with an agent and landlord based on the rental property address you specify.

Generating your reports and rental application

  • You are now able to generate your reports and rental application.

  • You will be asked to provide your Social Security number (or ITIN if applicable). This is provided directly to TransUnion® using a secure, encrypted interface.

    (SoftScreen® does not see, receive, capture, or store your Social Security number. You are communicating directly with TransUnion®)

  • TransUnion® will verify your identity based on your entry. This is done by providing several multiple-choice questions that only you can answer.

    (If you cannot verify your identity by answering these questions, you will be asked to call TransUnion®. The needed info will appear on your screen.)

  • Once verified, reports and rental application are immediately generated.

  • You will be asked to provide payment. You can use any major credit or debit card.

  • Upon payment, your information is released. It’s placed in your secure account and the account of those you have chosen to share with.

  • Your rental application is presented. Please complete and submit your rental application.

  • If you are applying to rent (a rental property’s address was selected), you will be able to upload additional information the landlord may have requested.

    (Applying for rent includes secure document upload. This allows you to provide information like proof of income/pay stubs, photo ID, etc.)

Who has access to your information?

You do! And, anyone you have chosen to share with. You always control the distribution of your personal information.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat!

You can continue to generate an unlimited number of fresh, soft pull reports and rental applications, sharing them to apply for rent. You can apply for as many rentals as you’d like. Share everything with landlords and their representing agents. If your own agent invited you, you can share your info with them too.

Un-Share. Privacy by Design!

If you change your mind for any reason, you can “Un-Share” the information you had previously shared with others. With the click of a button you can revoke access to any of the reports, rental applications, or documents you had generated in the past.
